Today, sheriff deputies responded to a call on the 400 Block of Highway 131 near Eufaula about an unidentified object resembling an artillery shell that was found while digging underground. The local fire marshall was contacted who then contacted the Dothan Police Department Bomb Squad, who were on the scene within an hour. The squad identified the object as a military artillery shell and notified the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team from Ft. Benning, GA. Upon arrival, the team found that the artillery shell still had live charge and moved everyone to a safe distance and distroyed the shell with explosives.
