Sheriff LeRoy Upshaw announced the arrest of a fifteen year old male on Sexual Misconduct charges. Sheriff Upshaw said the juvenile was arrested on June 05, 2012 at his residence just outside of Clio, AL.
Upshaw said the Alabama Criminal Code does not allow a person under the age of sixteen to be charged under the Rape statute.
The Juvenile was charged with two counts of Sexual Misconduct for allegedly having sexual intercourse with two children under the age of twelve.
Sheriff Upshaw said that he and his department are committed to protecting the children of Barbour County. He further stated that if a person commits these types of crimes, the case will be investigated and an arrest will be made if evidence is gathered to warrant an arrest.
Investigator Lt. David Morris gathered evidence in the case and made the arrest. Lt. Morris encourages parents to listen to what their children are telling them about what is going on in their lives. He stated, "If this type of thing is going on, most of the time your child will tell you. You just have to listen to them telling you in their own way."
Sheriff Upshaw said that if a parent suspects that something may be happening to their child to contact their local Police Department or the Barbour County Sheriff's Office.
